FAN FAVOURITE AWARD REVEALED

Posted on October 12, 2017

This morning the Calgary International Film Festival announced the inaugural Fan Favourite Award, presented by Evans Hunt and Stone-Olafson, selected by festival-goers who each saw at least 10 films. A total of 61 fans completed ballots during October 1 – October 10.

“This award is decided by the ultimate jury – our die-hard film fans,” said Steve Schroeder, Executive Director of the Calgary International Film Festival. “They saw an average of 19 films each. It’s wonderful to see our audience so engaged.”

A group of particularly dedicated Calgary Film attendees, the voters saw a combined total of 1,145 films at the 2017 festival. These film fans also have a history with our festival. On average, they have attended eight festivals since the Calgary International Film Festival began in 2000.

And the winner of the Fan Favourite Award is… CALL ME BY YOUR NAME, directed by Luca Guadagnino. This film erotic coming-of-age story, set in northern Italy in 1983, resonated with the group.

Our dedicated film watchers were asked to name their top three selections. Their choices have resulted in the following Top 5 picks from the Fan Favourite Award vote:

The Top 5:

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME, directed by Luca Guadagnino
BORG/MCENROE, directed by Janus Metz (tied for second place)
A DAY, directed by Cho Sun-Ho (tied for second place)
THE DIVINE ORDER, directed by Petra Volpe
THE SQUARE, directed by Ruben Östlund

Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2017 Calgary International Film Festival our most successful yet. We look forward to seeing you next year! In the meantime, join us November 1 for Doc Soup presentation of BENDING THE ARC
