Oh Canada and Sandra Oh: Canadian Cinema at CIFF 2016

Posted on August 31, 2016

CALGARY – The Calgary International Film Festival announced all things Canadian today. The Sixth Wave of films to be released, in advance of our full lineup announcement on September 7, showcases Canadian Cinema. CIFF also announced a Canadian animated feature in our Headliners series, as well as newly confirmed guest filmmakers who will be in attendance and will walk the red carpet. In addition, CIFF announced several upcoming Behind the Screen events, including a tour of the new Calgary Film Centre.

Canadian actress Sandra Oh (GREY’S ANATOMY, SIDEWAYS) and Ann Marie Fleming will be in Calgary for the screening of WINDOW HORSES, part of CIFF’s Headliners series. Filmmaker Ann Marie Fleming tells the story of Rosie Ming (voiced by Sandra Oh), an aspiring Chinese Canadian poet whose only wish in life is to live in Paris.

In the Gala department, Director Kim Nguyen will be in attendance for TWO LOVERS AND A BEAR, our Canadian Gala feature film.

Meanwhile, in our Canadian Cinema series, the Calgary International Film Festival is pleased to offer a broad range of films by Canadian filmmakers.

“We have incredible diversity in the series this year,” said Brenda Lieberman, Programming Manager & Features Programmer. “It has everything from sport films to psychological thrillers, comedies, family drama, coming of age, quirky relationships and everything in between.”

The announcements don’t stop there! We also have several exciting Behind the Screen events coming up at CIFF 2016.
