TIFF award winners to screen at CIFF

Fresh off a successful Toronto International Film Festival, a number of award winners will help kick CIFF 2015 off with a bang. The first weekend off CIFF is dotted with multiple screenings of five films awarded some of TIFF’s highest honours.
ROOM (Dir. Lenny Abrahamson) **WINNER TIFF People's Choice Award**
In this emotional drama, a mother desperately tries to provide a life of normalcy for her five-year-old son while both are held captive. SCREENS: Saturday September 26 at 7:00 PM & Sunday September 27 at 9:45pm
CLOSET MONSTER (Dir. Stephen Dunn) **WINNER TIFF Best Canadian Feature Film**
A fresh take on a-coming-of-age story, CLOSET MONSTER explores the difficulties a gay teenager faces while growing up in small-town Newfoundland. SCREENS: Friday September 25 at 9:45 PM & Sunday September 27 at 1:45 PM
HURT (Dir. Alan Zweig) **WINNER TIFF Toronto Platform Prize** (Director will attend both screenings)
HURT is a biography portrait of Steve Fonyo who in 1985, at just 19-years-old, completed his run across Canada, after having lost his left leg to cancer. SCREENS: Saturday September 26 at 6:45 PM & Sunday September 27 at 1:30 PM
SLEEPING GIANT (Dir. Andrew Cividino) **WINNER TIFF Best Canadian First Feature** (Director will attend both screenings)
During one monumental summer, childhood innocence is challenged, illusions are shattered, and honesty and betrayal have extreme consequences as three young boys spend the summer roaming the lakeside. SCREENS: Friday September 25 at 7:00 PM & Monday September 28 at 10:00 PM
OVERPASS (Dir. Patrice Laliberté) **WINNER TIFF Best Canadian Short Film**
A teenager sneaks out to create graffiti the night before his brother comes home. A moving family drama about the importance of finding a creative outlet while facing emotional upheaval. SCREENS: Saturday September 26 at 11:45 AM & Wednesday September 30, 7:00 PM as part of the Relatives and Romance short films package.
