Traversing all of his past films, multi-award-winning director Jia Zhang-Ke (USELESS, CIFF 2008; MOUNTAINS MAY DEPART, CIFF 2015; ASH IS PUREST WHITE, CIFF 2018; SWIMMING OUT UNTIL THE SEA TURNS BLUE, CIFF 2020) delivers an epic look at the romantic destiny of his perennial heroine, Qiaoqiao. Spanning 21 years, the film gives a new perspective to contemporary China and the effects of turbulent emotional and social change.
Caught up in each other, Qiaoqiao and Bin enjoy all that Datong has to offer. One day, Bin finds himself wanting to try his luck somewhere bigger. After he leaves without any notice, Qiaoqiao decides to go on a journey to look for him.
