In a not-so-distant future, climate change, poverty and inequality are problems of the past. The answer is population control. Anyone who reaches 50 years of age must surrender their life – and the youth are responsible for documenting their final moments with art and creativity. Kiah (Keira Jang) has just been recruited for the job and asked to use her artistic skills to make art out of these end-of-life rituals.
Director Anne Marie Fleming (WINDOW HORSES, CIFF 2016) mixes animation into her storytelling for this live-action feature starring Sandra Oh (WINDOW HORSES, CIFF 2016; BLINDNESS, CIFF 2008). Along with rich characters, at the centre is a story about ageing, our future, as well as themes of legacy, hope for future generations and what really matters in the end.
