Durga Chew-Bose’s debut feature BONJOUR TRISTESSE is an adaptation of Françoise Sagan’s coming-of-age novel of the same name from 1958.
BONJOUR TRISTESSE follows Cécile (Lily McInerny) a young woman spending the summer in a villa in the south of France with her widowed father Raymond and his latest love interest, Elsa (Naïlia Harzoune). Theirs is a lived-in compatibility a world of ease and languor.
Their relationship is threatened when her late mother’s best friend Anne (Chloë Sevigny), a celebrated American-born, Paris-based fashion designer, shows up for a visit. The dynamic between the women, and their relationship with Raymond inevitably changes, and what was a once the perfect world for all, is tested and in flux.
