Azra, a Pakistani woman living in Toronto, is worlds apart from her conservative Muslim mother. When her father suddenly dies on a trip home to Pakistan, Azra finds herself on a Bollywood-inspired journey through memories, both real and imagined, from her mother’s youth in Karachi to her own coming-of-age in rural Canada. When the mother and daughter's stories come together, a new potential for connection emerges.
From writer/director Fawzia Mirza (NOOR & LAYLA, CIFF2021; SIGNATURE MOVE, CIFF2017) and inspired by personal experiences, THE QUEEN OF MY DREAMS is a dramedy spanning 30 years in the life of one Pakistani-Canadian family. Infused with humor, romance, music, and fantasy, it explores the intergenerational ties between mothers and daughters, East and West, home and away.
