In 2021, six rappers sparked a lyrical battle for human rights, as their song "Patria y Vida" became a rallying cry for change throughout Cuba. In retaliation, the Cuban government began to intimidate and even imprison people for the simple act of listening to the song.
While most members of the group were either imprisoned, detained, or threatened with kidnapping, these six brave musicians still managed to create a Grammy-winning, viral phenomenon - without the benefit of radio support, marketing strategies, or a major record label to shield them from the long arm of a repressive government.
A rousing demonstration of what it means to fight for real freedom, PATRIA Y VIDA: THE POWER OF MUSIC is at once incredibly inspiring and devastatingly sad.
