On February 17, 1967, CBC aired the very first episode of a quaint, unassuming children’s television program created by Ernie Coombs or, as he is more commonly known by millions of fans, Mr. Dressup. Some 4,000 episodes and 29 years later, Ernie retired, leaving a legacy of creativity, patience, inclusiveness, and kindness.
Through a collection of never-before-seen archival footage and insightful interviews with the Coombs family, the show’s puppeteers, and a cavalcade of Canadian notables, MR. DRESSUP: THE MAGIC OF MAKE BELIEVE illustrates the massive impact made by Coombs across five generations of Canadians. This film celebrates the life and work of one of Canada’s most beloved individuals.
