CIFF’s Global Perspectives Series is a monthly global cinema series running November 2022 - April 2023 in cinema.
CARMEN screens at Globe Cinema April 12.
Paul Mescal and Melissa Barreradazzle star in a reimagining of one of history’s most famous love stories.
When a tragedy strikes, the fiercely independent Carmen (Melissa Barrera) is forced to flee her home in the Mexican desert. She survives a terrifying and dangerous border crossing, only to be confronted by lawless vigilantes. When she meets a young Marine with PTSD, played by Paul Mescal (AFTERSUN, CIFF 2022), the two fall madly in love and seek refuge from the violence.
Director Benjamin Millepied is a French-born, American-trained ballet dancer best known for choreographing 2010’s BLACK SWAN. His debut feature is a modern reimagining of the love story behind Bizet's famed opera, featuring mesmerizing dance scenes and a transcendent score from Nicholas Britell (MOONLIGHT, CIFF 2016).
Single Ticket: $14, includes tax, plus fees
