In early 2020, director David Sieve returned to his hometown of Bad Axe, Michigan. There, he captured his family's quiet struggle to keep their restaurant afloat in the midst of a worldwide pandemic and Trump-era American politics.
With his deeply personal debut feature, Siev took home the SXSW Audience Award for Best Documentary and the Special Jury Prize for Exceptional Intimacy in Storytelling. BAD AXE openly and honestly portrays the sacrifices and recurring trials necessary to achieve and maintain the American dream.
