For 20 years, indie record store Other Music was THE influential hub of music culture in New York City. This is their story.
Located in the heart of Manhattan's East Village, New York City's Other Music was more than just a record store. It was a place where bands were formed, record labels were born and careers were launched. And it's where a generation of New Yorkers gathered to discover groundbreaking new music by artists like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, The National, Arcade Fire, and countless others.
As record stores continue to close and community hubs like Other Music struggle to remain in existence, OTHER MUSIC celebrates what spaces like this have meant to so many people over so many years, and the importance of finding community in an increasingly digital world.
Co-Director Puloma Basu is in attendance for the Sep. 24 screening; Q&A to follow.
