Ratna (Tillotama Shome, MONSOON WEDDING), a young widow, moves to Mumbai to work as domestic help for Ashwin (Vivek Gomber) and his bride. This new job is supposed to give Ratna a fresh start in her life while financially supporting her family. However, when she gets to the city, she finds that Ashwin’s marriage is called off. She is still employed but her role shifts. While Ashwin is crushed and appears to give up on life, Ratna is brimming with hope and has a spark for life. Ratna tries to offer some words of advice to Ashwin and slowly the two of them start to form a connection even though society around them won’t ever allow such a relationship.
Anchored by a career-defining performance by Tillotama Shome, Rohena Gera’s SIR is a charming film that depicts the social structure in India and restrictions that prevent people from following their dreams.
