Pawel Pawlikowski follows-up his Academy Award-winner IDA with the impeccable COLD WAR which landed him a Best Director Award at this year’s Cannes festival. The film starts off in 1949 Poland, where musicians Wiktor and Irena are traveling across the Polish countryside looking to put together a folk music group. At one of their tryouts, Wiktor eyes Zula and falls for her completely. Zula becomes part of their group but the changing political landscape in Poland throws a wrench in their affair.
Infused with lovely musical numbers and enhanced by gorgeous black-and-white visuals, COLD WAR is a passionate love story set against the background of Europe that is disintegrating and setting up new ideological barriers.
