The newest film from experimental documentarian Denis Côté follows the lives of six bodybuilders as they train for their next competition.
What would you do to have the perfect body? How would you know when to stop? For the six bodybuilders featured in experimental documentarian Denis Côté's newest film, there are no easy answers. As Ronald, Alexis, Cédric, Benoit, Maxim and Jean-François train for an upcoming competition, we quietly follow their daily lives, both in the gym and at home. As the men endure extreme diets, tanning and hair removal along with their grueling workouts, Côté presents them not as caricatures, but as complex humans grappling with the human cost of their obsession.
A film that at times blurs the boundaries between reality and performance, A SKIN SO SOFT is a haunting yet humane examination of beauty and masculinity.
