As her life falls apart, an angst-driven teen performs rituals of dark magic that call upon a witch to kill her mother.
After the death of her father, angst-ridden teen Leah (Nicole Muñoz) turns to mysteries of the occult as a source of connection with her peers. Her mother (Laurie Holden, THE WALKING DEAD), struggling with grief due to Leah's resemblance to her dead husband, attempts to rid herself of his memory by moving them north to a remote house in the forested countryside beyond the city. As Leah is separated from her peers and newfound love, her anguish and fury reaches its pinnacle: she performs an occult ritual that calls upon a spirit to kill her mother. Dark magic encompasses Leah with games of deception and terror which force her to take action against the called-upon spirit of Pyewacket.
PYEWACKET is Canadian writer/director Adam MacDonald’s second feature film, after BACKCOUNTRY, which was a selection at the 2014 Calgary International Film Festival. It stars Nicole Muñoz, who also appears in another festival film, GREGOIRE, which was shot in a pre-fire Fort McMurray.
