A stylish animated heist film that smartly mixes references to the cinema of Jia Zhang-ke and Quentin Tarantino.
Liu Jian’s remarkable HAVE A NICE DAY is a stylish animated film that doesn’t hold back its punches. The film centres around a bag of million yuan that a driver (Xiao Zhang) steals from his mobster boss, Uncle Liu. He needs the money to help pay for his girlfriend’s corrective plastic surgery. Naturally, the crime boss wants the money back and won’t stop until he gets it. However, news of the robbery spreads fast and a few others join the hunt for the money.
Peppered with smartly placed political references, HAVE A NICE DAY channels some of the anger of Jia Zhang-ke’s A TOUCH OF SIN and filters everything through the cool lens of a Quentin Tarantino film. The end result is a completely original film that takes us on a wild unpredictable journey.
