Overweight Irene is sent to do community service at a seniors' home, where her life takes an unusual turn.
Teenage Irene (Michelle McLeod) is overweight and friendless, but yearns to be on the cheerleading squad at her high school. Scorned by the other students, she acts out and is sent to a seniors’ home to do community service. While there, she persuades the bored residents to enter auditions for a reality show - aided by a bored cook, a gender queer student, a retired boxer and more in this feel-good comedy which will speak to all those who are not part of the popular crowd.
Filmed in Ontario, DON'T TALK TO IRENE will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Geena Davis is featured as Irene’s mentor, encouraging Irene to find her way, while providing the no-nonsense motivation she needs to face her bullies and follow her passions.
