This year's Black Carpet Gala will feature the first two episodes of VAN HELSING, the new sci-fi vampire series coming to television this fall. Our genre gala selection VAN HELSING is followed by one of the best and most unusual parties of the festival, just up the street from Globe Cinema at State & Main. Tickets cost $25.
Cast members Kelly Overton, David Cubitt, Jonathan Scarfe & Christopher Heyerdahl, writer Simon Barry, director Michael Nankin and executive producers Chad Oakes & Michael Frislev in attendance!
In the near future, vampires have risen up against humanity and a war rages between the two factions. Having lost nearly everything, the humans are pushed underground and to the edges of survival – until a new hero emerges in Vanessa Helsing (Kelly Overton, TRUE BLOOD), a distant relative to her vampire-hunting ancestor. With modern twists on the steampunk original, it's a gory and action-packed offering for this year's Black Carpet Gala.
VAN HELSING is produced locally by the award-winning Nomadic Pictures, who are based in Calgary and have previously offered fan favourites like FARGO and HELL ON WHEELS. Since their inception in 1995, Nomadic has produced more than 67 mini-series, TV shows and films, worth more than $650 million.
The first two episodes of VAN HELSING, which we will be screening at the gala, are directed by veteran filmmaker Michael Nankin, who has previously worked on TV series such as THE EXORCIST, HELL ON WHEELS and CSI. The series will premiere on SyFy (SuperEcran in Quebec) in the fall of 2016.
