Em and Isak meet while escaping the scene of an unsuccessful one-night stand. As they walk the streets of Stockholm, he lends her his coat — and thus begins this twisted Swedish love story. Embarking on an impromptu road trip in Em's father's convertible, they head to the north of Sweden, gradually opening up and talking more about their pasts. Isak complains about a monotonous life with no ambitions beyond the present; Em speaks about feeling out of place among her successful friends, and trying to escape a dark childhood memory. Eventually running out of both money and affection for each other, the trip soon takes a sinister turn.
With cinematographer Niklas Johansson behind the scenes, ETERNAL SUMMER is a visually striking film that shows the beauty of northern Europe. And behind the camera, director Andreas Öhman has carefully created an emotionally jarring and genuine lovers-on-the-lam story.
