A gripping tale of human trafficking on the high seas based on actual events.
Kang (Kim Yoon-seok) is the captain of a fishing boat crew who are struggling to make ends meet as their fishing income doesn’t pay enough. In order to earn some extra cash, Kang takes up a high-risk job of smuggling people from China to South Korea in his boat. The job is fraught with danger as the crew is forced to travel further into the sea and have to navigate against the harsh elements. However, their biggest challenge lies in dealing with their fellow man and their own conscience. Based on actual events, SEA FOG (HAEMOO) is a gripping tale of men who are willing to go to any lengths in order to survive. The film marks the directorial debut of Shim Sung-bo, who made his name as a screenwriter for Bong Joon-ho’s stellar film MEMORIES OF MURDER. Now, Bong Joon-ho (SNOWPIERCER, THE HOST) returns the favour by being a screenwriter in Shim Sung-bo's memorable debut feature. DISCOVERY AWARD NOMINEE.
