Director Josh Bishop and documentary subject Tomi Fujiyama will be in attendance at both screenings!
MADE IN JAPAN chronicles the career of Tomi Fujiyama, a Japanese country music sensation who reached the height of her success in 1964 performing in Nashville with Johnny Cash.
Following her early success in America, Japan’s first female country music star retuned home in the 1960s and went on a hiatus from international touring.
Now in her 70s, Tomi Fujiyama is seeking a comeback in America as she looks to relive the experience of singing at the famed Grand Ole Opry, where country music legends including Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline regularly performed.
The documentary captures Tomi’s resurgence in the time of new Nashville, where talent doesn’t always beat out popularity and commercial success.
Backed by a team of heavyweight executive producers including Morgan Spurlock and Elijah Wood, MADE IN JAPAN is an honest look at the unlikely western singer who still embodies the heart and soul of classic American country music.
We've joined up with our pals at Sled Island to host a free show at The Ship & Anchor on Saturday at 8 p.m. Don't miss your chance to see this amazing country music singer perform!
