Dheepan is a Tamil warrior from war torn Sri Lanka who is forced to flee the country with a woman and child he barely knows.
Though strangers, the trio try to seek a better life far from home in Paris as a family, but once again Dheepan is forced to fight for his new life. In the much anticipated follow-up for RUST AND BONE director Jacques Audiard, DHEEPAN received many accolades for the suspenseful drama, including the 2015 Palme d’Or, the most prestigious prize in world cinema from the Festival de Cannes.
Starring in the lead role as Dheepan is Antonythasan Jesuthasan, a former child soldier with the Sri Lankan militant group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, who fled the country in the late ‘80s and eventually made his way to France, where he became an acclaimed playwright, essayist and novelist. DHEEPAN is his first leading role in a film and it likely won’t be his last.
