New Zealand writer/director Jason Lei Howden packs whole lot of metal, buckets of gore, and a healthy dose of comedy into one hell of a bloody good time, in his outrageous feature debut, DEATHGASM.
This 2015 SXSW Midnight favourite unites teenage new kid in town, Brodie (Milo Cawthorne), together with resident bad boy Zaak (James Blake) in conservative, small town New Zealand. Bonding over a shared love of metal, the duo unwittingly conjure up a maelstrom of satanic forces after they form a heavy metal band with a group of their fellow misfits.
Things turn increasingly sinister when they get their hands on an unrecorded song from their musical idol - and they soon learn why the song was never recorded as the level of mayhem that ensues is definitely turned up ‘to eleven’. With plenty of hilariously over-the-top horror and a true reverence for the music, DEATHGASM is the year’s bloodiest good time – and one Hell of a party.
