Faced with booming populations, rampant poverty, and widespread corruption, the countries of western Africa are at the forefront of a changing society, one in which criminals often escape consequences. CHAMELEON tells the true story of journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who is aiming to change that.
Called the “James Bond” of investigative journalism, Anas employs many methods – from posing as a bartender to a Crown Prince – in order to get close to and bring down human traffickers, abusive hospital staff, rapists, and other criminals. Filmed over the course of two years, the documentary gains unprecedented access to Anas’ team and tactics, and follows him through some of his highest-profile cases, all while protecting the identity of the man who assumes so many of them in the name of justice.
Winner of the 2015 Emerging Canadian Filmmaker Award at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, and nominated for an award at the 2015 Brooklyn Film Festival, CHAMELEON is what a documentary strives to be. DISCOVERY AWARD NOMINEE.
