When Fernando and Gabriel’s father leaves their family, their mother is devastated by the loss. In his grief, Fernando turns to self-destructive behaviour, leaving young Gabriel to try and hold everything together.
For a diversion, the brothers escape for a weekend into the forest on a camping trip. Throughout their exile, shot beautifully in Mexico, the brothers learn about themselves, brotherhood, and in the absence of their parents, their family.
Directed by Pablo Delgado Sanchez, The Tears was shot without a script or written dialogue. Only short chapters about each scene were provided, as an experiment in coaxing natural performances from the actors.
