When Saskatoon-based rock band The Sheepdogs won Rolling Stone magazine’s “Choose the Cover” competition, their lives changed forever. A look at how a prairie band manages newfound fame, The Sheepdogs Have At It, from Winnipeg director John Barnard, features detailed interviews with band members Ewan Currie, Leot Hanson, Ryan Gullen, and Sam Corbett. Even their parents become an important part of the film, shedding light on the group’s personal history.
Barnard opts for an unobtrusive, fly-on-the-wall style of filmmaking. Capturing hours of live show footage and exploring the high-pressure process of making an album following their Rolling Stone-induced fame, we follow the band’s journey, witnessing an intimate portrait that reveals the group’s hopes and frustrations.
The Sheepdogs Have At It celebrates the band, their artistic process, and the music itself.
