Aging Shomer (David Fox) is a morgue watchman who spends his days guarding the recently deceased prior to their burial. It’s a lonely job with plenty of time for introspection, but all that is shattered on the night he recognizes one of the new arrivals as his long lost first love, Leah (Milda Gecaite). The encounter forces him to come to grips with the fateful time he spent with Leah, hiding in a Lithuanian barn during World War II, and a promise he made over fifty years ago. As Leah’s body lies before him, he is left wondering whether reconciliation is too late
Award-winning Canadian short film director Naomi Jaye (Peep) makes her full-length feature debut with Canada’s first fully-Yiddish film, a moving story about the universal struggle between oppression and tolerance, love and pain.
