Iranian director Asghar Farhadi follows up his Academy Award winning film A Separation with a family drama of quiet grace and painful revelation.
In The Past, Ahmad (Ali Mosaffa) returns to Paris to finalize the divorce with his French wife, Marie (Bérénice Bejo). Upon arrival, he finds he’ll be staying in a house with her two daughters from a previous marriage, and a son from her current partner. Through deft turns of dialogue and incredible detail, complicated histories and interrelationships gradually unearth long-buried secrets. A broken family melodrama of rare power, clarity and grace, and a finalist for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes International Film Festival, The Past earned the Best Actress award for Bejo's (The Artist) intense performance.
