Legend says the Cherokee called it “The Singing River.” Along a shallow stretch of the slow moving Tennessee River sit four small towns that came to dominate rock ‘n’ roll throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. Classic soul songs like “When A Man Loves A Woman” and “I’ll Take You There” were all recorded at the tiny studios located on its shores. Muscle Shoals is the story of FAME, a studio founded by Rick Hall and a place where musical giants would descend hoping to capture the magic of those muddy waters. Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, and the Rolling Stones all recorded major hit records in Muscle Shoals, backed by the house band The Swampers.
First-time director Greg “Freddy” Camalier offers a collection of first-rate interviews, showcasing Muscle Shoals talent from Jimmy Cliff, Rod Stewart and Paul Simon, to Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, Gregg Allman and the Rolling Stones.
