In his newest feature, cult director Bruce LaBruce offers up racy subject matter couched in compassion. Gerontophilia (a title that literally translates to “love of the elderly”) follows 18 year-old Lake (Pier-Gabriel Lajoie) as he takes a job as an orderly at a nursing home. Lake finds himself drawn to the elderly men who reside in the institution, recognizing that they were once young and that he will one day be in their place. After a patient by the name of Mr. Peabody (Walter Borden) becomes smitten with him, Lake befriends the man and learns about the tragic love that broke his heart. When it becomes clear to him that the residents of the nursing home are being drugged to keep them complacent, Lake plots to bust Mr. Peabody out of the home and take him on one last road trip. Thelma and Louise by way of Harold and Maude, Gerontophilia is a film about love, rebellion and fumbling towards freedom.
