Winner of the Audience Award for Midnight Movie at this year's South By Southwest Film Festival, Citadel is a tense thriller set in the slums of urban Ireland. First-time writer-director Ciaran Foy transforms Ireland's tenement housing into an unrelenting nightmare that walks the line between psychological horror and monster-movie shocks.
After helplessly watching a gang of hooded children assault his wife, Tommy (Aneurin Barnard) is left alone with a newborn daughter and a crippling case of agoraphobia. The only time he leaves his home is for therapy sessions, until a priest warns him: “they're going to come looking for her.” Tommy soon learns that his new home offers no protection. If he wants to save his daughter from these feral children, he'll have to face his fears head on.
