The directorial debut from Ojibway poet Arnand Garnet Ruffo, shot on Six Nations Reserve in Ontario and in the Ottawa Valley, A WINDIGO TALE is a passionate look at the issues of Aboriginal gang violence, the power of traditional spirituality and the need for healing and reconciliation in the Native community. Inspired by the history of the residential school system, where generations of Native children were aggressively assimilated into Euro-Canadian society, the film shows the complex consequences of a brutally flawed system.
Harold, a Native grandfather, is desperate to save his troubled grandson, Curtis, from a life on the streets in the city. He takes Curtis on a road trip home, and during their journey he tells him about the dark secrets of his family and community. In a parallel story that takes place in an isolated northern village, a widowed mother must reunite with her estranged daughter in order to free themselves from the voracious Windigo spirit tied to their painful past. Starring Gary Farmer (ADAPTATION, ONE DEAD INDIAN) and Andrea Menard (RABBIT FALL), A WINDIGO TALE is a powerful story of intergenerational trauma and healing.
