Steelworker Chen (Wang Qian-yuan) is a loving father and a weekend accordion player who passes his love for music onto his daughter. When financial issues result in her dismissal from music school, the well-intentioned Chen tries to remedy the situation by painting black and white keys onto the edge of a desk, but somehow his daughter remains sullen. Though he can’t afford to buy a piano, the reappearance of his estranged wife – and her threats to take custody of their daughter – prompts Chen to find a way to acquire one and win his daughter’s heart. As attempts to beg, borrow and steal pile up, Chen enlists his eclectic, sarcastic and incredibly devoted friends to help him build a piano from scratch in a derelict factory in their town.
Punctuated with unconventional musical performances and comical chase and fight scenes, THE PIANO IN A FACTORY is a fanciful story about family, friendship, purpose, and happiness. When a father is truly dedicated to his daughter’s happiness, there is no telling what he can accomplish.
