The path to self-discovery can be surprisingly roundabout. When a slaughterhouse worker (Gérard Depardieu, who can also be seen in the BIG LITTLE MOVIES shorts program) learns that his past employers have put his pension at risk with their sloppy record keeping, he hops on his trademark Mammoth motorcycle to track down his proof of employment. What starts as an exercise in record keeping soon turns into something far more significant.
As Depardieu journeys further into his past, he comes to discover that his reputation isn’t exactly what he expected – despite his flawless work record, his bosses and coworkers see him as a bit of a dullard. Worse, he realizes that he’s never even tried to prove them wrong. Inspired by an encounter with his young niece and her artistically inclined girlfriends, Depardieu becomes determined to unleash the poet’s soul within, and to prove to the world that he’s more than the simpleton they’ve assumed him to be. What began as an accounting error becomes a life-changing journey, and a chance to become the man he never realized he always wanted to be.
