Dustin Johnson is an artist with a vision. That vision—ninjas. With their penises hanging out.

Not every vision is a good one.

A frustrated painter and a failure in just about every other regard, Dustin is the black sheep of the family. His older brother, Dave, is pursuing a PhD, running a successful Christmas light company and is expecting his first child with his beautiful Guatemalan wife. Dustin, hoping to finally prove his own worth, decides to start up a business of his own—or, more accurately, to sabotage his brother’s business and steal his customers. But when their father is diagnosed with cancer, with Dave off visiting South America, Dustin has no choice but to pull himself together for the good of the family.

Despite a healthy dose of Wes Anderson quirk, ROGER’S PASS is a highly personal film for first-time writer-director Colin Askey, whose own father, Roger Askey, passed away from cancer. Filmed in and around Calgary and with a largely local cast and crew, both the film and its origins are a testament to the strength that can come from tragedy.
