HIS & HERS is a subtly beautiful portrait of a 90-year love story told in the collective voice of 70 women at different stages in their lives. Starting chronologically from the very young, we hear how love and relationships with the opposite sex evolve over the years through a series of intimate confessionals. From early adolescent flirtations to the complexities of a more mature relationship, love at different stages in these women’s lives takes on completely different meanings as the emotion itself strives to fulfil different needs.

Director Ken Wardrop’s first feature is both revealing and affectionate, and the cinematic quilt he weaves with his camera makes 70 different voices seem as one. His imaginative re-working of what an “observational” documentary looks like may well inspire a new generation of filmmakers to turn the style on its ear.
